˚₊۶ৎ˙⋆ Things I Consider Therapy ✦ ݁ ˖

♡ Things I Consider Therapy ♡

Lately, I've been collecting little hobbies that make life feel softer. Nothing particularly groundbreaking or impressive—just small things I can do with my hands, my mind, or my attention that give me a reason to slow down. I've started thinking of them as my own forms of therapy: tiny rituals that help me get out of my head and back into the present. From making miniature polymer clay magnets to growing herbs on my windowsill, these are the things I've been reaching for lately when I need to decompress, feel productive, or simply enjoy being alive.

There is something ridiculously satisfying about making tiny things. I've recently gotten into making little magnets out of polymer clay, and I love how low-stakes the whole process feels. I can sit down with a handful of clay, make something cute and imperfect, and not have to worry about whether it's "good" enough. There's something almost meditative about rolling, shaping, squishing, and adding tiny details. It gives my brain something simple to focus on while still letting me be creative. Plus, at the end of it, I have a tiny little object that can live on my fridge and make me smile every time I see it.

My garden is another form of therapy, especially because it gives me something living to take care of. Right now I'm growing rosemary, basil, mint, oregano, parsley, cilantro, chives, green onions, Roma tomatoes, and banana peppers. There's something grounding about checking on everything each day, seeing what's grown overnight, and knowing that eventually something I cared for will end up on my plate. Gardening also teaches me to be patient in a way I don't always naturally want to be. I can't make a tomato grow faster just because I'm impatient to see it. Sometimes all I can do is water it, give it sunlight, and wait—which, honestly, is probably a lesson I need in more areas of my life.

Cooking and baking have become another way for me to slow down and take care of myself. I like the whole process, from figuring out what I want to make to chopping ingredients, mixing things together, and eventually getting to eat the result. Baking especially has something comforting about it because there's a little bit of magic involved: you put a bunch of separate ingredients together and somehow end up with bread, cookies, cake, or something else entirely. Even when something doesn't turn out perfectly, I still usually enjoy the process. There's a certain satisfaction in making something with my own hands and being able to share it with other people—or just sit down and enjoy it myself.

Tarot has become a tool for reflection more than anything else. I don't necessarily approach every reading as a prediction of what's going to happen; I like using the cards as a way to ask myself questions I might otherwise avoid. Shadow work fits into that really well because it gives me a reason to look at the uncomfortable parts of myself instead of immediately trying to push them away. Sometimes pulling a card or sitting with a particular question helps me notice a feeling, habit, or thought pattern that I hadn't really acknowledged before. It's less about having all the answers and more about giving myself permission to be honest with myself.

Figure skating is something I'm getting back into this September, starting at the pre-free skate/beginner level, and I'm honestly really excited about it. There's something about being on the ice that makes everything else disappear for a little while. I have to focus on where my feet are, how I'm moving, and what I'm trying to learn, which gives my brain a much-needed break from everything else. I'm also looking forward to being a beginner again—to learning new skills, making mistakes, probably falling a few times, and slowly getting better. I don't need to be perfect at it or have some big goal in mind. Right now, I just want to enjoy moving, challenge myself, and have something to look forward to each week.

♡ Current Television Favorites ♡

Television has never offered more incredible storytelling than it does today. From gritty family dramas to superhero adventures, witty comedies, and political thrillers, there's truly something for everyone. These are four of my current television favorites that have kept me entertained with unforgettable characters, compelling stories, and plenty of memorable moments. Each series brings something unique to the screen, making them well worth watching.

Shameless is one of the most entertaining and unpredictable family dramas ever made. Following the wildly dysfunctional Gallagher family on the South Side of Chicago, the series blends humor, heartbreak, and chaos in equal measure. Every character is flawed but relatable, making it easy to become invested in their lives despite their constant misadventures. The show's ability to balance emotional moments with outrageous comedy is what keeps me coming back, and the performances from the cast make every episode feel authentic.

Moon Knight offers a refreshing twist on the superhero genre by exploring themes of identity, trauma, and mythology. Oscar Isaac delivers an outstanding performance as Steven Grant and Marc Spector, seamlessly portraying multiple personalities with depth and emotion. The Egyptian mythology woven with Jewish up-bringing throughout the story adds a unique atmosphere that sets it apart from other Marvel series. Between the action sequences, psychological mystery, and impressive visual effects, Moon Knight stands out as one of the most intriguing superhero shows I've watched.

Sex and the City remains a timeless favorite because of its honest look at friendship, relationships, and personal growth. Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha each bring their own perspective on love and life, creating stories that are both entertaining and relatable. While the fashion and New York City backdrop are iconic, it's the enduring friendships between the four women that make the series so memorable. Whether it's filled with humor, romance, or heartfelt conversations, the show continues to resonate with audiences years after it first aired.

Political Animals is an underrated political drama that deserves more recognition. The series follows a former First Lady and Secretary of State as she balances the demands of public service with the challenges of her complicated family life. Sigourney Weaver delivers a powerful performance, bringing intelligence, strength, and vulnerability to her role. Combining political intrigue with personal drama, Political Animals offers thoughtful storytelling and compelling characters that make it an engaging watch from beginning to end.

♡ Current Film Favorites ♡

Everyone has a collection of movies they return to because of the emotions, lessons, or entertainment they provide. My current favorite films span different genres, from superhero action to romance, inspiring drama, and heartfelt satire. Although each movie tells a very different story, they all feature memorable characters, meaningful themes, and moments that stay with me long after the credits roll. My current favorites are Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Pretty Woman, Dead Poets Society, and Jojo Rabbit.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of my favorite superhero movies because it combines exciting action with a gripping political thriller. The story follows Steve Rogers as he uncovers corruption within S.H.I.E.L.D. while facing the mysterious Winter Soldier, who has a personal connection to his past. The film stands out for its intense fight scenes, strong character development, and themes of loyalty, trust, and doing what is right even when it is difficult. It is a movie that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

Pretty Woman is a timeless romantic comedy that remains enjoyable because of its charming characters and uplifting story. The film tells the story of Vivian, a kind-hearted woman who unexpectedly falls in love with businessman Edward. Their relationship grows through humor, personal growth, and genuine care for one another. Beyond the romance, the movie explores themes of self-worth, second chances, and looking beyond first impressions, making it both heartwarming and memorable.

Dead Poets Society is an inspiring drama that encourages viewers to think independently and pursue their passions. Robin Williams delivers an unforgettable performance as English teacher John Keating, who motivates his students to "seize the day" and appreciate the power of literature and self-expression. The film explores friendship, courage, and the pressures of expectations while reminding audiences to live meaningful lives. Its emotional story and powerful message make it one of my all-time favorite films.

Jojo Rabbit is a unique film that blends comedy, drama, and history in a thoughtful and creative way. Set during World War II, it follows a young boy whose beliefs are challenged when he discovers a Jewish girl hiding in his home. Through humor and heartfelt moments, the movie explores prejudice, compassion, and the importance of questioning hatred. Its balance of emotional depth and clever storytelling makes it both entertaining and meaningful, earning it a place among my current favorite films.

˚₊۶ৎ˙⋆ A Playbook on Discernment ✦ ݁ ˖

 ♡ A Playbook on Discernment ♡

Discernment: The ability to judge well, see hidden truths, and make wise choices. Coming from the Latin word "to separate", helping us tell the difference between right and wrong... or so Google says. In my personal judgement, discernment saves lives and if anything- is a synonym for intuition. The times in my life  have not exercised discernment have led to grave mistakes, and even worse, shitty people continuing to exist in my life. Doing it for the plot just ain't doin' it anymore for me. There's more to life than things that only serve to wreak havoc on my nervous system and entirely throw my way of life off. I don't want to be in my 50's wondering what I could have done better had I just used discernment in situations where it was called for.
After years of serious mental torment- I wonder if now, as a 23 year old, if I am over-using my discernment or seriously underestimating my intuition. I find myself in situations where I feel like I'm running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, just to find out I was right all along. Most of the time, it's bullshit right in front of my face. Plain as day. Absolutely inescapable. I tell myself, "This wont happen again!" and 2 months later it happens again. I've started to just work off of every intuitive thought I have, big or small. If I'm right, I just saved myself the torture. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong and can move on. I don't mind being the villain from time to time. We're all the villain in someone's book in one way or another- might as well make use of the power.

I spoke to my friend Maya recently who got out of a 6 year relationship with a guy she met at her aunt's friend's Shabbat dinner. Nothing like modern Jewish love. She explained to me that part of the reason they broke up, among plenty of other things, is due to the fact that he kept plenty of female friends. They wouldn't hang out one on one, however she always had a nagging feeling that there was a reason he kept them followed if he had "no intention of seeing nor speaking to them." He denied any wrong doing of course, and when she finally exercised her discernment, the truth began to unfold. All of those "friends" were former situationships and even an ex-girlfriend of his. Discernment doesn't just save lives, it saves you from Josh's and Seth's more focused on making Aliyah than a proper relationship.

The real question is, "How do I learn to hold discernment? For both myself and others, in a way that's non-destructive and serves a greater purpose." and the answer is... you don't. There's no self-serving, totally ethical way of having discernment. Discernment and intuition go hand and hand- and nobody's intuition is always 100% right. Our own self doubts and traumas can cast an illusion quicker than our brains have a chance to respond- it's human nature. There is a way you can tame it, and that only way is through honest communication. If someone can't handle your honesty, then your discernment about them is more than correct. Someone who cares will take the time to listen and value those concerns. XOXO
